Kayla K. The name itself has a ring to it. And if it’s local talent making it big, it has an even better ring to it. You may have seen Kayla on the pages of the South African ELLE and Marie Claire, or perhaps even in Mr Price stores. Internationally she’s walked for the big names in fashion at Milan Fashion Week and has been shot by top international glossies, all of this at just 16. She has blonde hair, blue-green eyes and brows to die for. We caught up with Kayla before she heads for Paris, London and Milan in August.

When you’re not travelling the world, where are you based?
I live in Cape Town.

When did you start modeling?
I started two and a half years ago. I entered a competition in Pretoria and was signed by Fan Jam modelling agency.

Highlight of your career so far?
Definitely travelling and discovering beautiful places.

What’s the first thing you do when you get back to SA?
I go straight home to spend time with my family, boyfriend and friends.

What are you currently working on?
I am still at school so I’m working hard in between modelling jobs.

Funniest moment on a shoot?
I shot with Glen Montgomery for Gavin Rajah where they built a set that floated in the Sea Point swimming pool. It was quite a balancing act!

What’s the best part about being a model?
Wearing beautiful clothes and shoes.

And the worst?
The long hours but when you see the results, it’s definitely worth it.

Any advice for aspiring models?
Keep your head up and your feet on the ground.

If you weren’t modelling, what would you be doing?
I’m still young and at school so I haven’t decided quite yet but I am very ambitious.

Favourite feature?
My eyes.

Karlie Kloss. She inspired me way before I began modeling and still does now.

Style icon?
Erin Watson meets Taylor Momsen. My style is very rock ‘n’ roll – I love my leather jackets!

Where do you shop?
I love Zara, Bershka, Top Shop and Cotton On. They all have accessible and great fashion pieces.

Which show has been your most memorable?
I have walked for Roberto Cavalli twice at Milan Fashion Week and both were great fashion moments because his designs are beautiful and I really do feel comfortable in his pieces.

I won’t leave home without…
My cellphone.

I love…
Meeting new people, having fun and being out with the people closest to me.

I dream of…
Having the title of supermodel, achieving success and being a businesswoman.
