The Poetry spring/summer range for 2018 will be available in stores and online from October 1st. This year’s design theme is centred on the notion of a languid, vibrant summer full of whimsical encounters and a love of all things fresh and botanical.
Inspired by far-flung journeys to the world’s foremost trend destinations, Poetry’s innovative new range evokes excitement with a carefully curated palette of nautical neutrals featuring white, navies and blues. This is bolstered by pops of yellow (this season’s hottest trend), cerise pink and lobster coral, and underpinned by hints of olive, pistachio green, soft pink and milky hues. Combined with comfortable, easy-wearing, silhouettes, the stage is set for long, hazy days of pure summertime contentment – the very epitome of relaxed sophistication.
The delight is in the detail, darling.
Drawing on distinctly Cuban resort themes, with a particular focus on botanical and nautical pieces, this season’s highlights are definitely the loving details that round off each garment. Shoulders and sleeves take centre stage, with plenty of ruffle detailing and sultry, cold-shoulder items. Tie detail is also key, and makes an appearance on sleeves, necklines and waists; with contrast and self-colour embroidery offering a dash of alluring texture. Stripes in all shapes and sizes are also front and centre. A substantial portion of the collection consists of breathable fabrics like pure cotton and linen blends to ensure comfort on those blazing hot days; while viscose and Rayon blends are employed for a light and airy feel with exceptional drape.
Fresh new pieces & capsule wardrobe staples.
The Poetry SS18 range features a variety of reimagined classics and updated favourites that are tailor made for summer. Appealing to the modern mood of Poetry’s inspiring clientele, a range of fashion-forward pieces were included to build out the existing seasonal capsule wardrobe offering. This includes the Amore jumpsuit, Loamie romper, Kendal knit top, Remona mixed-media tee, Marelize paper bag waist pant, Isla printed culotte, Saskia tapered-leg linen pant, and more.
With the aim of fulfilling a full spectrum of lifestyle requirements, the Poetry SS18 range includes options for work, leisure, and special occasions. The festive season is approaching and there is a big focus on striking occasional dresses, including the Dannielle, Elanie, Bernice, Heide, Maretha, Olivia, Roche and Valencia. The exciting Dresstination range spans various price points, starting at R599 for classic everyday garments, up to R1499 for specialised occasional dresses. The brand’s signature reversible dresses in a variety of silhouettes and prints also offer exceptional value at price points between R699 and R899.
Updated footwear & trendsetting accessories.
Put your best foot forward this season with Poetry’s expanded collection of classic heeled sandals and wedges. The Made in Spain espadrilles are now available in classic-, lace-, and cage-inspired wedge variants; as well as a classic slide variant with a single strap, and a pointy slip with ornamental detail. Other exciting footwear options include the Luna braided slide, the Rayne brogue, and Sophia babouche with ornamental detail. Those who prefer comfort are also spoiled for choice, with a selection of feminine sneakers between R350 and R599; a variety of flat sandals between R499 and R999; modern loafers, lower wedges and padded court shoes.
TOP TIP: Look out for the new range of Poetry footwear! This season’s favourite is the Poetry Caroline, a pointy loafer that pairs wonderfully with a variety of summer looks.
As for accessories, SS18 comes with all the bells and whistles. Think leather bags in beautiful silhouettes of all shapes and sizes, in gorgeous colours and executions. Belts are also big – the trendy waist belt is back by popular demand and will now also be available in a shimmering nude. Naturally, fun in the sun calls for some cover, so choose an effortless kimono paired with lovely summer hat. This season, there are plenty to choose from – wide- brimmed, hand-woven, embroidered, many interesting colours, and even a light, roll-up travel visor for on-the-go convenience. Complete the picture with a beautiful lightweight silk scarf and a leather travel capsule consisting of a wallet set, pouch set and weekender bag.
Home is where the heart is
This season’s homeware and décor range will launch in store and online in November and December. Interior enthusiasts can look forward to a collection that features one-of-a-kind artistry, feminine articles and unusual treasures with a joyful approach to colour and patterns. The cheerful freedom of expression that underpins the collection means that nothing has to be what it seems. A bowl can be used to serve tapas, house trinkets or keepsakes. A beautiful box can store jewellery, tea, or a few of Poetry’s first- ever artisanal chocolates and nougat.
Practicality meets exotic expression in block-printed Indian tablecloths, Thai glassware, Vietnamese sea-grass baskets, brightly decorated terracotta planters, and handmade crockery in Portuguese colours and designs. These far-flung finds live happily alongside locally crafted items, such as Kapula candles and ceramics from Bredasdorp, as well as bath- and body products, candles, diffusers and room sprays, all of which have been produced in South Africa. A serene palette of blues, aqua, teal and blush pink merge seamlessly with whites, off-whites and gold accents to arrive at a truly harmonious collection that is as wonderful to use as it is delightful to look at.
