The Old Khaki autumn/winter range for 2017 will be available in stores and online in April at www.oldkhaki.co.za. This year’s design theme, ‘Run away with me’, was inspired by the freedom of travel, the insatiable call of wanderlust and the simplicity of life on the road.

The menswear range speaks to the spirited adventurer with relaxed, masculine pieces in olives, burgundies, rusts and gradients of blue that have been tailored for easy wearing; while the ladieswear range captures the essence of lingering outdoor escapes with layering, texture and deep, earthy tones underpinned by mid to dark wash denim.

New denim directions

As always, there is an emphasis on high quality, well-fitted denim items that are simple to wear and easily layered, speaking to the season’s foremost local and international trends. The men’s denim collection was expanded to include a selection of trucker jackets and the quintessential denim shirt. For pants, this season’s four key fits range from narrow straight and regular straight, to tapered and skinny. They are available in a variety of wash gradients and treatments, including paint splatters, rip-and-repair and patch detailing. The womenswear collection features an embroidered denim trucker jacket, light wash denim shirt, denim dungarees and denim jeans in a variety of washes and finishes, including the popular rip-and-repair detailing.

The AW17 menswear range builds on the success of the Old Khaki knitwear and jacket collection, with innovative updates to key items. Shoppers can look forward to more variety in fabric bases and silhouettes. In the ladieswear department, focus was placed on elevating fabric bases – the stretch in the denim, the feel of the cotton shirts and the softness of the knitwear. There are also some finer details to discover, like polar fleece lining in jacket pockets and floral prints on the inside of leather jackets. The evergreen Old Khaki puffers and down jackets have been rejuvenated and are now available in a range of new colours and trims.

Fresh new transitional pieces & wardrobe staples

In terms of transitional pieces, the men’s range offers layering staples like jackets and knitwear, with the ladies’ collection focussing on lighter-gauge knitwear, as well as parka and leather jackets that add an authentic, casual edge to any outfit. Key wardrobe staples have also been updated to reflect prevailing trends – camo is big across the board, with an additional focus on heathered yarns and checks in the men’s department. The ladies’ range features the dark-base winter floral trend and accent embroidery.

Updated footwear & innovative accessories

For women, Old Khaki’s top three footwear picks for 2017 are suede vellies, urban armour ankle boots with buckle detailing and traditional riding boots. On the men’s side, proudly South African Arthur Jack boots and shoes are available in a range of fashionable styles.

This year’s accessories also provide plenty of scope for personalisation. Men’s backpacks and messenger bags in waxed canvas and leather feature sturdy hardware and clever design detail; while Old Khaki ladies can look forward to coloured leather items, in hues of berry and forest green, and a variety of fashion- forward bag shapes, including a reversible tote and comfortable backpack. A reversible poncho wrap, scarves and beanies with pompoms complete the picture for ladies’ accessories, with branded peaks and felt fedoras placing the final touches on the men’s.

The Old Khaki AW17 range is all about expressing personal style with well-made, durable items that don’t need to make a statement. It will appeal to casual, carefree shoppers with a healthy, engaged lifestyle that heeds the call to adventure.
