Gap is, in fashion terms, a household name. We love Gap for their basics and simple separates, and we’ve come to trust the name too. As for their tees – you can never have too many. The American retailer has had ‘Gap style’ down since 1969 but what you may not know is that Gap is not just about great basics and casual, cool staples. I was recently invited to Gap SA bloggers’ event hosted by Grazia and was wowed by their latest collection of prints and patterns, whites and acid brights. (Not what you’d expected, right?) And then there’s the denim. Let me tell you, everything fits like a glove.
I went for the 1969 sexy boyfriend jeans and styled them my way, that is to say, casual cool with a grey tee and understated tan handbag. In case you didn’t know, boyfriend jeans are back. Yes, in 2008 they were at a high and seven years later the slouchy, rolled-up, off-duty denim jeans are back and rivalling their skinny sister for dominance.
Here’s the thing, the boyfriend should fit loosely around the hips and have tapered legs that absolutely have to be rolled up so they have turn-ups. This is the ultimate ‘dressed up but dressed down’ look. While casual is cool, sloppy isn’t so do wear yours with heels and add a statement piece for a luxe twist. I went for a red lip. And one more thing, finding a pair of boyfriend jeans is no easy task and it’s definitely not always as easy as borrowing your boyfriend’s – the idea is to still look sexy, which means fit is everything.
