Alexa Corlett joined our all woman team a month ago and we’re honoured to have Lex’s beauty and brains on board. Meet this superwoman that we’re proud to call our own.

Lex, how would you describe yourself?
I’m down-to-earth, confident and honest.

When you are not working, what keeps you busy?
Switch classes and online shopping. (Did we mention she’s humble too? Note that she did not mention being a model in her spare time.)

How would you describe the work culture at Jenna McArthur PR?
Very professional and organised with the occasional outburst of quirkiness – and punctuality is key at Jenna McArthur PR.

What did you do before joining us?
I’ve been modeling since I was 18 and have lived and travelled independently since then to pursue my modeling career. It has been the best five years of my life. I’m still at it part-time.

Why the move to fashion PR?
Because I’m a routine kind of girl. I need structure in my life to be 100% happy and I was ready to stay put in one place after years of travelling non-stop. I also want to be successful at something I am passionate about and it found that thing in fashion PR.

What do you bring to the team?
My natural energy and down-to-earth attitude, which makes it cool and easy to work with me. Even if I say so myself…

Who inspires you and why?
My mom. She is the power woman I want to be one day. Beautiful, strong, successful and independent.

Three things on your radar?
Firstly, I’m obsessed with the Maison Mara and everything in it but I’m especially drooling over the tiny silver PS1 bag and black open-toed heels. A girl can dream!

Then there’s my boyfriend’s coffee shop and deli called Molten Toffee at 45 Kloof Street. It’s small and trendy and the coffee is the absolute best in Cape Town, not to mention the delicious breakfast. It’s a very special hang-out. He is planning to open a bar right next door early next year.

Lastly, there’s my friend and photographer Caroline Mackintosh’s exhibition ‘The Murmur’ at the Woodstock Exchange which is on until the end of this month. I love her work. She shoots mostly on film and is a brilliant and super creative photographer. I think it’s time I invest in my very first piece of art. (That is a big deal to me!)

What is your ultimate weakness?
A cheese fondue.

One thing we don’t know about you?
I have a 30cm scar running down my left thigh.

First thing you do when you get to the office in the morning?
A flat white from Molten Toffee, which is on the way to work.

Describe your style?
Effortless, cool and chic.

How would you describe your colleagues, Jenna, Jacqui and Shalagh … and go!
Professional, cool, precise

Who has influenced you the most in life?
It’s not who has influenced me in life, it’s what. I love music and feel a lot through songs and their lyrics and different genres of music suited to the mood I’m in. It enhances my daily experiences and adds far more meaning to them, which I think is important, whether good or bad.

Top tip for anyone wanting to get into PR?
You need persistence and a willingness to take on anything with a creative mind!
