EYE ON KLûK CGDT

0 Posted by - August 18, 2014 - FASHION, LIFESTYLE

Working with designer duo Malcolm Kluk and Christiaan Gabriel du Toit of KLûK CGDT for their opening of their flagship atelier in July was an absolute honour. The opening also served as the launch of their latest collection, a collaboration with Dutch heritage brand Vlisco in conjunction with AFI’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Cape Town. This made KLûK CGDT the first designers in the world to show designs with Vlisco’s latest range, Fantasia.

I may be biased but their new home in Bree Street is simply beautiful. There’s nothing like this three-storey store in South Africa. Its huge glass windows, high ceilings and grand feel are the perfect fit for the designs it houses.

Stepping into the store is an experience in itself. The detail makes it a special place with the staircase designed by up-and-coming SA artist and sculptor Rodan Kane Hart, handcrafted rugs with striking, bold designs by Mae Artisan Rugs and splashes of neon furniture against their signature Plascon colour, ‘You’re my Sweetie’.

The new store is a celebration of creativity and beauty by architect Craig Kaplan and contains an edited selection of the things Malcolm and Christiaan love and want to share with their customers. At the same time clients can shop candles and tea from Yswara, one-of-a-kind homeware from Hemelhuijs and lifestyle accessories from Sobeit.

The bridal room on the second floor is my favourite space. Brides-to-be can expect a monthly in-store pop-up and installations to augment KLûK CGDT’s bridal offering with consultations and quotations for floral decorations and bouquets by florist Blomboy.

It’s an indulgence room for brides to be, this is where you can be that fantasy you have dreamed of all your life. – KLûK CGDT

The bridal gowns were one of our highlights of our #OpeningNight collection. We love their drama, but we also love some of the ready-to-wear pieces like the Jumpsuit or the big blouse. – KLûK CGDT

Plenty of fun was had at KLûK CGDT’s #OpeningNight – the perfect end to fashion week! The store opening was a true celebration with guests dancing the night away while stylishly sipping CÎROC® Ultra-Premium, (one of the world’s finest vodkas) for welcome drinks, as well as Johnnie Walker® Gold Label Reserve, of course!

We asked the designers:

What do you want people to take away with them when leaving the new store?
Happy memories

We love the music at the new flagship atelier. What’s on your playlist?
We have all our favourite music on loop; our best is Beatrice Ardisson, a French DJ who compiles covers of well-known songs but with Parisian cool!

Must-have item from the Othelia collection available online at Spree?
Definitely the trench! The Othelia collection is made from limited-edition Vlisco’s Voila. The trench is probably the coat of this decade.

Definitive fashion moment… meeting Christiaan.

One thing we don’t already know about you? I’m addicted to Rowntree’s fruit pastilles.

I own too many… empty cupboards.
