ELLE’S STYLE REPORTER 2013

0 Posted by - December 11, 2013 - FASHION

This year I had the pleasure of working with ELLE and BlackBerry on their Style Reporter 2013 search as well as the honour of being on the panel of judges. After months of hunting for that one blogger who has what it takes to report for ELLE (and many a goosebump moment) we at last reached last week’s big reveal where Niquita Bento became ELLE and BlackBerry’s second Style Reporter.

The Cape Town-based blogger won a 12-month contract with ELLE to report for elle.co.za, an invitation to an international fashion week and a brand spanking new BlackBerry Q5 to report on the go as well as mentorship from Sharp Sharp photographer Ed Suter, a R5 000 allowance per month and a course from Vega. All this amounts to the biggest prize of all – a career in fashion!

I chatted to Niquita about her Style Reporter journey and her work.

What makes you stop and snap?

I love finding the small details and beauty in everyday things.

What does winning the ELLE Style Reporter in association with BlackBerry search mean to you?
Absolutely everything! This is such an amazing opportunity and I plan to work as hard as I can to make everyone who supported me and ELLE proud!

How would you describe your work?
My work is clear and contemporary with a strong sense of composition.

Which of the shots that you submitted in the competition best sums up your work?
This image is a true representation of my passion. I love working with architecture, fashion and people, and I want my photographs to tell a story and connect the dots. I like to think that my images are characterised by their composition, geometry and movement.

Were there any other stand-out moments during the competition, apart from winning?
Definitely the one-on-one session with the judging panel. Receiving praise from such influential people in the industry was an honour and a very proud moment.

What’s hot on the streets right now?
Crop-tops. They are everywhere. I think you’ll find the trend continuing throughout summer.
