My sister is someone you need to know about and I’m not just saying it because she’s my sister. She is super talented when it comes to DIY, décor and creating pretty things out of pretty much nothing. Jacqui Madsen, for that is her, has impeccable taste and a background in fashion (she did merchandising for Aquascutum in London and was a trimming buyer in Cape Town) before taking her talents first to Singapore and then Dubai. She now sells the most beautiful prints and fabrics, which she imports, from the UK and the States under her brand, Brooke Eva Décor. There’s something for everyone in her girls’, boys’ and home collections. You’ll be able to get your hands on her fabrics, cushion covers and soft furnishings online soon (watch this space) but for now get décor inspired and view them on Pinterest here.
Meanwhile I asked Jacqui to share her DIY shoe display and I promise, you.will.be. obsessed! She says:
Every woman loves shoes and beautiful shoes can be used as décor in your bedroom. Instead of hiding heels in your cupboard, use shoe racks to make a feature of them. Think laterally and use moulding in this season’s emerald green or a sunny yellow. Hook your heels on it to create amazing DIY wall décor!

What you need:
1. 2 tins of spray paint, for good coverage (If you can’t find your colour crush, you can use standard paint but bear in mind that you will have to paint on a primer first.
2. A bare wall and heels that would make any wall look good
3. 2 x 1m lengths of cornice or picture frame
4. Picture hooks for attaching the cornice to the wall (if it is heavy, you will need more hooks) or strong double-sided tape if you’re using moulding
Paint the mouldings and fix to the wall in two rows using the hooks or double-sided tape.
Hook your heels onto it. It’s as easy as that.
Accentuate the feature by placing a table with pretty pieces underneath so that the area becomes a focal point.

Ornamental mouldings and cornice can be found at NMC nationwide or simply go to your local framer and choose any frame you like.
